Stewardship
"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Winston Churchill
Sacred stewardship is defined as 'Using the gifts God has given us, to do the work God is calling us to do.' It includes the careful and responsible management of the resources entrusted to our care, whether those gifts are our own talents and treasures, or the talents and treasures offered in the spirit of generosity by others.
What prodigious generosity we have here at Christ’s Church. The generosity of the talented musicians, the inspiring and compassionate clergy, and the selflessness of the lay ministry who serve the disadvantaged, sit with those who simply need company, and pray for those in distress. Your generosity makes this place what it is.
To support and amplify all we give of time and talent, we also need funding. It costs $60 an hour to operate Christ's Church based on our current programs, facilities and staffing. Many of us spent time this year devising a strategic plan. This plan organizes the call we are answering to expand the work we are doing in ministry, music, worship, education and playful thanksgiving. To support this call, we are launching launch a three year funding program that includes
- Annual pledge campaigns each fall to fund day-to-day operations
- A three year Capital Campaign to fund large projects and pay for major building expenses.
- Fundraising activities like Party of Parties , the annual Arts, Tarts and Treasures sale, and musical events to test and grow other ways to inspire generosity besides the old reliable sources of 'pledge and plate'.
We need 125 individuals and families to commit to pledge for us to meet our operational goal of $500,000 for 2008. We plan to generate another $500,000 from the Capital Campaign. We intend to generate $25,000 from fundraising activities in 2008 and grow those programs to support 10% of our budget by 2009.
