The 12 Days of Christmas
Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel
On December 25, we rejoiced at the birth of new love in all of our lives and the beginning of the earthly journey of the Christ child. Every day, we are each blessed to start anew on our individual lifelong journey, with wondrous new opportunities every day to experience Christ's love by embracing the Wonder in all through prayer, study, service and play.
Today, we enter The Twelve Days of Christmas, which celebrate the Magi's journey to the manger. You are invited to enter your own period of discernment, in concert with our church community, to consider what you want reborn -- in your life, the life of your family, the life of your community - this next year. Follow the Magi; look for the Epiphany...the Awakening. It is there already, welcoming you. Here are some ideas to help each of us connect, appreciate, and awaken.
Please accept this offer of suggestions. Know, too, that we wish for, welcome and appreciate responses. By sharing your stories, you help others better shape their own commitments for this new year.
Therefore, Christians all, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.
With these words ends the timeless carol Good King Wenceslas. Perhaps they can serve as the springboard for your Twelve Days of Christmas journey as well. Thank you for all you have done and shared in 2009. Peace and joy be with you and yours, as you discern how best to share your blessings, with so many delightful ways available, in 2010.
