Epiphany 2008

We celebrate the Epiphany season in the life of the Church because we need to remember again and again that Spirit is loose in the world.  There are appearances and manifestations of the divine in the most ordinary places.  The Aha, the Wow, the Epiphany gives us an intuitive grasp of reality through something simple and striking.  We are suddenly awakened and enlightened for a moment.  String enough of these awakenings, epiphanies together and our reality changes.  The new mind emerges and we ‘see’ with new eyes, becoming new beings.

Awakening to the ‘Anointed One’, the Christ, is to awaken to the ‘Anointed Many, the Christs, christened to grow into the fullness of who we’ve been created to be.  Imagine yourself and those around you as an alter christus, another Christ.  Imagine the Spirit actively living in every cell of your being, inviting you into greater prosperity, greater health, greater wisdom, greater participation in the transformation of creation.

We were told by Christ Jesus that we would do greater things than he, that we were to be in communion with the Counselor, the Spirit of Truth at all times; that we were to be the leaven in the dough of humanity to awaken and co evolve the whole of creation.

Our action must be to stop the frenetic madness and come home to the groundless ground of our Being.  We are invited to reimagine, realign, and renew ourselves every day.  We are called to manifest a more courageous, centered, disciplined, integrated, sacred presence in the world.  We are directed to engage a broader stewardship and care more for others.

Are you ready to manifest something new in yourself?  Are you courageous enough to let go of what’s holding you back from being more fully alive?  Are you innovative enough to recreate and transform yourself and the Church?  The Epiphany requires a showing, an appearance, a simple and striking change.  Does that speak to You?  Are you inspired to move, to engage in deep change?

If so, you might attend Mass more regularly or commit to show up for the Lenten Wednesday night series.  Create a prayer time every day.  Reflect on your life.  Open yourself to new possibilities.  Live deep. Listen even deeper. Cultivate acceptance of all that is with a smiling heart.  Let go your judgments.  Live in a loving companion presence. Enter into the joy of the moment.  Be peaceful.

What’s your Epiphany? What’s your vision, your action, your mission? What’s your move?
