Ruminations from the Rector - November 2009
I’ll never forget the four winter months I spent at eleven thousand feet in a primitive Colorado Rockies log cabin with my dog Lincoln. It was a winter wonderland, and the most concentrated time of deep reflection I’ve ever had.
As I sit looking out the window at our present day winter wonderland, I’m touched by how much has changed and stayed the same. I’m touched by how many words have been spoken and how many lives have been broken. On the flip side, we celebrate the lives of all saints and souls. We’re-entering the end of the yearly cycle during this month and beginning a new one with Advent leading to Christmas and beyond. What of these cycles?
Each cycle has a theme, something for us to reflect upon and awaken to. Right now it’s about those who have gone before us, holding up the Ideal we see in their striving. As we look to them, we reflect on how we’re hitting and missing the mark in our own day-to-day lives. What kind of witness are we giving to faith, hope and love? How are we bringing more beauty, truth and good into the world? What do you need to end and begin in the next day, week, month for you to take the next graceful step on your journey?
My mountain-top experience taught me one thing, and I forget it every day: I’m Not In Control…………and…………. as I enter the great resounding silence to realign myself with God, the Universal Heart, listening and following, I am free to act and unfold in ways I could never imagine on my own……… The invitation, then, is to act with awareness, courage and trust: to enter into the freedom that is here for you to enjoy!
Blessings All Ways,
F. W. “Rick” Meyers+
