Workshop description
Safeguarding God’s Children is a workshop for parents, grandparents, congregations and those involved with children and youth ministries. It is primarily about educating people around prevention of sexual abuse. Our purpose is to provide guidelines necessary to create a safe container within which we can be free to give our students the love, affection, teaching, nurturing, mentoring, and spiritual leadership they need in safe, healthy ways.
The workshop is required every four years for the following, whether paid staff or volunteer, occasional or regular:
- Youth group leaders
- Teachers and teaching assistants
- Drivers
- The Children’s Place attendants
- Acolyte leaders
- Church employees, including clergy
- Anyone who works with children or youth whose previous training is over four years old
- Anyone else who for any reason has regular contact with children or youth in the church
The workshop is strongly recommended for the Senior Warden, Junior Warden and vestry members. Parents, grandparents, and congregational members are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Please note that while this workshop does not contain graphic images of sexual abuse, it is nevertheless designed and recommended for those sixteen and older.
A personal note from Cristi Rivero: “I went to this class because it was required. I came away feeling that it was some of the best four hours I have spent on my son’s behalf. Not only did it empower and enlighten me, it gave me more tools to help protect my son as well as myself. Yes, it is not a pleasant subject – but I cannot encourage you enough – if you deal with ANY child ANYWHERE you should take this class.”
