The Brain Fitness Program - starting June 8th 9:15 am

Are you worried about losing your keys, forgetting names, being stuck in old patterns...

THE BRAIN FITNESS PROGRAM , a new PBS special featuring the system developed by Dr. Michael Merzenich and more than 50 neuroscientists around the world — is the first topic of our Summer Adult Journeys. Adults at CEC are invited to the library from 9:15 - 10:15am Sunday mornings where we will watch a piece of this new video series, discuss and do some of the exercises. This is a great place to introduce new people to our Church.

Dr. Michael Merzenich has created a system for strengthening the brain's agility, speed and comprehension. The Brain Fitness Program is based on neuro-plasticity — the ability of the brain to change, adapt and even rewire itself. The brain remains highly malleable or “plastic” throughout life, and by presenting the brain with the proper stimuli, scientists can drive beneficial physical and functional change. In the past two years, this global team of scientists has developed computer-based stimulus sets (or “exercises”) that drive beneficial changes in the brain. This methodology is being expanded to address auditory and visual processing and memory, dealing with complexity and the neurological basis for difficulties in hand movement, posture, balance and mobility. Our focus with THE BRAIN FITNESS PROGRAM is brain health that supports our desire to grow and change. Robert Davis, Barry Pardus and Mark Kelly will lead this series for all Adults. We want to stimulate purposeful chemical, physical and functional change in the brain. Improvement in auditory, memory and cognitive function gives us more freedom and ability to change the way we see the world and act in it.

We will start on June 8 and run 6 weeks. Each unit is self contained so you don’t need to worry if your out; just come when you are able.

Additional group studies for the summer will be held in the library. Look for information later this summer on Healing and Finding the Gold in our Religious Past.
