Maria was born in Boston, Massachusetts, raised in a military family, and educated in twelve different schools including eight years in parochial school, in five states and Morocco. She graduated high school in San Diego, attended San Diego State College, graduated Colorado Christian University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management of Human Resources. She has been married to Jim for 43 years. They have two remarkable daughters, two sons-in-law and one granddaughter, who is the love of Maria’s life! Maria moved to Colorado in 1977 and subsequently served Christ’s Church in youth ministry, on the Altar Guild, Vestry and numerous committees and as Treasurer and Senior Warden. Her first ministry (one of her favorites) at Christ’s Church was baking bread for Eucharist services. She awakened to her “call” as a Deacon in 1984. She began the discernment process in the church in 1986; after five years of study and formation in the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, Maria was ordained a Deacon November 10, 2001 and assigned by the Bishop to Christ’s Episcopal Church, Castle Rock, Colorado. She is blessed to volunteer in prison ministry at the Douglas County Justice Center and in community at the Douglas/Elbert Task Force, where she currently serves on its Board of Directors. She serves on the Liturgy and Outreach Committees at Christ’s Church. Maria gives “Thanks” each day for servant ministry to God, God’s people, church and community. |
